Dead Man's Wire

Inspired by a true story,  director Gus Van Sant's (MY OWN PRIVATE IDAHO, DRUGSTORE COWBOY, ELEPHANT) DEAD MAN'S WIRE is a gritty crime thriller that takes its cues from some of the 70s top films of that genre, and is itself inspired by the true story of Tony Kiritsis. On On February 8, 1977, Kiritsis entered the office of Richard Hall, president of the Meridian Mortgage Company, and took him hostage with a sawed-off shotgun wired with a "dead man's wire" from the trigger to Tony's own neck. With  Bill Skarsgard, Dacre Montgomery, Al Pacino, Colman Domingo, Cary Elwes, Kelly Lynch.

"Brilliantly offbeat and tinged with a darkly humorous edge, Dead Man's Wire is brought to life by Bill Skarsgård's fearless performance, authentic period flavor, and anti-capitalist fervor." (Rotten Tomatoes)

"It’s unabashedly inspired by the best crime dramas from the 1970s, including 'Dog Day Afternoon,' 'The Sugarland Express,' ‘Network,' and ‘Badlands,’ and can stand proudly alongside them." (RogerEbert.com)

"Love that Gus Van Sant has crafted his true-crime hostage drama in the grand 1970s tradition of Sidney Lumet’s 'Dog Day Afternoon'. Bill Skarsgard drops his Pennywise psycho clown persona to make his unmasked mark as an actor. And does he ever." (Peter Travers)

"With terrific chutzpah, black-comic flair and cool, cruel unsentimentality, screenwriter Austin Kolodney and director Gus Van Sant have made a true-crime suspense thriller... tapping into the spirit of both Sidney Lumet’s 'Dog Day Afternoon' and 'Network'." (Guardian)
