Nope (With Filmmaker Q&A)
"What’s a bad miracle?"
Oscar-winning writer-director Jordan Peele disrupted and redefined modern horror with titles like GET OUT and US. In 2022, he re-imagined the summer movie with a new pop nightmare: the expansive horror epic, NOPE. Join us at the Park Theatre on Sunday, January 25 as we re-visit NOPE with the film's editor Nicholas Monsour (whose credits include US and NICKEL BOYS), who will be joining us for a post-show talk back and Q&A.
The film reunites Peele with Oscar-winner Daniel Kaluuya (GET OUT, JUDAS AND THE BLACK MESSIAH), who is joined by Keke Palmer (HUSTLERS) and Oscar-nominee Steven Yeun (MINARI, OKJA) as residents in a lonely gulch of inland California who bear witness to an uncanny and chilling discovery. Two siblings who run a California horse ranch discover something wonderful and sinister in the skies above, and the owner of an adjacent theme park tries to profit from the mysterious, otherworldly phenomenon.
"Jordan Peele, really, is the magician disguised as a filmmaker. Nope is the sleight of hand so slick you’ll never question how the trick was pulled off." (Independent, UK)
"Hunting for hidden meaning within the story and the pictures deepens the complexity of our relationship with the movie, but that's also a distraction from the simple enjoyment of its popcorn flick simplicity." (Salon.com)
"Whereas ‘Us’ had the feeling of a director straining to outdo his prior achievements, Jordan Peele’s third film strikes a perfect balance between inspiration and perspiration." (The Ringer)
