Bugonia
Oscar-winning filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos (POOR THINGS, THE FAVOURITE, THE LOBSTER) brings his signature, bold and irreverent storytelling style to BUGONIA, an English-language remake of Jang Joon-hwan's 2003 South Korean film SAVE THE GREEN PLANET! This darkly satiric comedy thriller about a pair of conspiracy-obsessed young men who kidnap the high-powered CEO of a major company because they are convinced that she is an alien intent on destroying planet Earth, finds the director re-uniting with muse Emma Stone (who took home her second Oscar for her memorable turn as Bella in POOR THINGS) and Jesse Plemons (KINDS OF KINDESS). With Alicia Silverstone, Aidan Delbis.
BUGONIA is currently nominated for three Golden Globe Awards, including for Best Film (Musical or Comedy), as well as for performances from Emma Stone (Best Actress -Musical or Comedy Film) and Jesse Plemons (Best Actor -Musical or Comedy Film).
"Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons are at the top of their game in 'Bugonia', a bonkers black comedy that applies director Yorgos Lanthimos' whip-smart method to modern society's madness." (Rotten Tomatoes)
"This takes me back to [Yorgos Lanthimos'] 'Dogtooth' in the bold weirdness of it and the challenge of, "Are you going to go with us on this trip or not?" (FilmWeek)
"The characters might be demented, but 'Bugonia' is a crueller, funnier, sharper proposition, more grounded and gritty than the wigged-out weirdness of the film on which it is based." (Guardian UK)
"Perhaps this nihilism will prove too trenchant and reactive for some viewers. That’s perfectly fine: Sometimes it feels good to scream for help, even if it will never come." (Salon.com)
