Sentimental Value
Sisters Nora and Agnes reunite with their estranged father, the charismatic Gustav, a once-renowned director who offers stage actress Nora a role in what he hopes will be his comeback film. When Nora turns it down, she soon discovers he has given her part to an eager young Hollywood star. Suddenly, the two sisters must navigate their complicated relationship with their father -- and deal with an American star dropped right into the middle of their complex family dynamics.
The latest tragi-comedy / family drama from acclaimed Danish-Norwegian filmmaker Joachim Trier finds him re-teaming with actress Renate Reinsve (THE WORST PERSON IN THE WORLD) in SENTIMENTAL VALUE, which is one of the most lauded films of 2025. It won the Grand Prize at the Cannes Film Festival and was nominated for 8 Golden Globe Awards, and won Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role in any Motion Picture, Stellan Skarsgård.
"A fantastic showcase for Renate Reinsve and Stellan Skarsgård, and another strong piece from director Joachim Trier, this is a moving drama that lingers long." (Empire Magazine)
"Stellan Skarsgård is magnificent as the charismatic, unreliable Gustav, but the film’s secret weapon is Elle Fanning’s hapless US starlet." (Observer UK)
"Better (and far cheaper) than group therapy, Sentimental Value is a thoughtful and moving exploration of the long tail of family dynamics." (Time Out)
"Trier’s film overflows with the kind of genuinely impactful potential that we go to the movies for, the type that leaves us feeling understood more than it makes us feel good." (Salon.com)
